First produced in 1990 showing excellent varietal definition.
Viticultural techniques including shoot positioning and basal
leaf removal have increased gooseberry and tropical fruit flavours
in this wine.
2011 Sauvignon Blanc
It was one of the most challenging summers I can remember in 25 years. A warm wet spring led to high fungal disease pressure.
This was followed by unseasonal summer rains and no heat waves in February or March prior to picking, also subsequent outbreaks of Botrytis, the "noble" rot were experienced by some growers. Many chose to pick before optimal maturity but we held our nerve, worked hard in the vineyard and achieved ripe fruit with intense flavour.
The cool conditions gave heaps of gooseberry flavour, a big lift on the nose and plenty of length in the finish.
I thoroughly recommend this wine with seafood at your local cafe, or in the garden on a lazy summer afternoon.
Cheers
